A message to the Army On Manoeuvres...

Recently, a friend of mine was given Mike's remaining records & memorabilia by a family friend, due to Mike now suffering from Alzheimer's and dementure. I will be acting as curator, my intention being to put together a tribute package.

As yet, I do not know the exact contents of the several boxes my friend has. I am meeting with him this Friday to go through it.

I'm hoping to find enough recorded material to release a record, possibly alongside a booklet and t-shirt. This would be a not-for-profit project, with all proceeds going to Mike himself.

I've already been in contact with a bunch of hip hop luminaries in order for them to record thank-you messages for Mike. DJ Cheese, Cash Money and others are already on board.

It was very sad to learn of Mike's condition. I hope that the Army can march forward with this and give him something back.

More details to follow. Keep it locked to the Boss.

By the way asked to join group on FB. Good stuff.

UK hip hop is lacking in legends, Mike Allen is most definitely one though.

This is sad news. Seemed like only a couple of years ago he did that One Extra Show. Just checked and it was actually October 2005!

And just so sad, trajic. He was the father we all wished we had back then! The backbone of hip hop... to the end he remained so magnanimous, objective and impartial on all other DJ's and the state of hip hop today and since his time... not once did he diss anyone elses skills, taste or directon, be they radio DJ's, producers or anything.. what a guy.

The man is a one off, hip hop wouldn't be what it is for so many of us if it wasn't for him.

In the link I posted he says that he didn't really like hip hop/electro prior to 84, the 'early stuff', he needed something a bit more 'spiky'. He found the 84' and onwards stuff more 'spiky' I assume. Didn't know he felt like that till now...

Utter nonsense to say there was little good Hip Hop before 1984, in fact that is the daftest thing i have heard in a long time to be honest.
