      THE EMPIRE STRIKES FLASHBACK

In the year 2003, the international online community for Electrofunk, Bass and Technobreaks – ElectroEmpire.com held a producers' competition, to create Electro Empire theme songs.Out of 37 entries from all over the planet, four winning productions were picked by a team of judges to be released on vinyl on the German label Electrecord. Fast forward to the year 2014... What better first release for the newly launched Electro Empire record label could there be then to start off with a long overdue re-release of this EP, presenting the four songs for the first time in remastered digital formats?

VARIOUS "THEME OF ELECTRO EMPIRE" (Electro Empire Records, EE-001)

      1. Gab.Gato - Electro Empire
      2. Split DJ - Electro Empire Soul
      3. Laite - Electro Empire
      4. DJ Wildthing - Lesson Electro Empire (Part 1)

      – bonus (previously unreleased) –
      5. Polytron - Electro Empire
      6. Paul Blackford - Electro Empire
      7. The Metric Brothers - Flight to Electro Empire
      8. DJ Wildthing - Lesson Electro Empire (Part 2)

While the productions by Gab.Gato from Italy (The Villains Inc., Dominance Electricity), Finland's Laite (X0X Records) and Split DJ out of Spain (Microciudad Recordings, Beathazard) represent the still fresh New School Electro sound of the early 00's, DJ Wildthing from Denmark takes it back to the roots, delivering a traditional mastermix packed with 80's Electro classics.

Due to the huge number of entries and only four slots on the vinyl release a lot of great songs were left behind. As a special bonus this re-release also features four of those previously unreleased entries by the Finnish duo Polytron (Kostamus Records), England's Paul Blackford (Militant Science, Twilight 76), The Metric Brothers aka Dr. Skunkenstein and Neil Stevens from the UK plus DJ D.S.K. out of China (Second To None, Electrolab Records) and once again DJ Wildthing with the second part of his Electrofunk mastermix.

THANKS to everyone who helped making this projekt happen in 2003 and 2014:
all the artists submitting songs, Rascal – founder of EE (1998-2003), Gregor at Electrecord, the
2003 competition judges and everyone who helped us tracking down artists and files a decade later.

It took several years to get everything back together for this re-release, but we think it was absolutely
worth it. As fresh as these songs still sound today, it shows once again that Electro is timeless!

April 2014 Record Review | V/A - Theme Of Electro Empire

Dominance Electricity inaugurates its brand new sub-label Electro Empire Records and goes digital this month with the reissue of a classic from 2003! At that time, the international online community and resource for Old School and New School Electro music ElectroEmpire.com, established by Rascal in 1998, invited artists from all over the world to participate to a musical competition and create Electro Empire songs. Winners appeared on a four tracker compilation published by German Electrocord.

Back to 2014 with the re-release of this EP, introducing the four original jams for the first time in remastered digital format. The EP is completed by a salvo of previously unreleased cuts from that era. Too rare Italian illustrator and producer G. Aquilini aka Gab.Gato (The Villains Inc, Dominance Electricity, Electrolab, Drivecom) opens hostilities with his wonderful "Electro Empire". An irresistible string makes its way through a harsh syncopated rhythm a la Spacer whereas retro drums immerse you into the 80's. Top notch!

Coming next is Barcelona based J.Gonzales Callejas better known as Split DJ. The Beathazard and Microciudad Recordings artist signs a solid "Electro Empire Soul" made of new school synth flights enhanced by distorted noise over nervous kicking beats. Finland based talent Teemu "Laite" Laine (X0X Records, Shoot To Kill Records), instantly following, serves up a deeper "Electro Empire" theme based upon a groovy baseline with warm hi-hats and emotive melodies.

Last but not the least, DJ Wildthing (B Boy Beats & Pieces), hailing from Denmark, delivers an untouchable "Lesson Electro Empire (Part 1)" mastermix, going back to the roots with a terrific and funky oldschoolish mashup of 80's Electro samples. Stunning! As for the bonus versions, Polytron, a Finnish duo formed by Mikko Niemelä and Vesa Latva-Mantila (Polytronics, Rikos Records, Kostamus Records) slows down the tempo, injecting a serious dose of darkness in SEM style to their bubbling "Electro Empire" cut. Not for the fainted hearts!

While UK Paul Blackford (Militant Science, Twilight 76) turns his version into a jumping breakbeat mayhem, The Metric Brothers (Metric), composed of UK DJ D.S.K. and infamous Dr.Skunkenstein, add to their powerful "Flight To Electro Empire" futuristic tonalities, old school samples, frantic scratch sequences, great vintage synth layers and feverish analog modulations. Finally DJ Wildthing returns with the second part of his "Lesson Electro Empire", a fresh and authentic megamix full of classics, definitively for the Bboys we are still!

With "Theme Of Electro Empire", Dominance Electricity offers a timeless release ranging from old to new school, illustrated with talent by Simonluca Spadanuda & Gab.Gato. Must have!
