Most on this forum have record collections so I was wondering how most of u get your records to wav or mp3 format. I am not very happy with the way I have been doing it over the years. I have been recording thru a dj mixer to a pioneer consumer level cd recorder. From there I have to then import the cd wav files into iTunes. I have a large amount of vinyl and want the best sounding fastest way to do this. I have thought about a USB turntable, are these any good or does it depend on the make and model?
Best way to rip records to wav file(encoding vinyl)

Deck to mixer to Soundforge then give it some normalisation/maximisation.

As the others have said, the way to go is definitely record into an application (any should do as long as you can do some basic levels adjustment and save the files out as your preferred format.
I've used Soundforge, Wavepad and Ableton and all give the same results.
Obviously you need a fairly decent soundcard with audio in! -
The Best and easiest way Ive found these days is a turntable that cost me $100. Its an Ion. It USB powered. No messy cables, no cords, amps or mixers.. Straight from the turntable to the pc. Very easy and fast !! Over the years Ive never converted vinly so fast and easy. One turntable, One usb cord and your favorite records and your good to go.. Id check it out m8.

Turntable through my mixer straight into wavelab. Quick normalise and bob's your uncle. I never bother with removing noise or crackles - they add to the charm
