akai mpc

  • i still use the MPC2000XL (fully extended).
very precise sequencer timing... nice and easy handling.
i never got into software based production
so i can't really compare... but i guess programming is more fun
with the MPC than doing everything via mouse clicks.

  • hi BIb what MPC are you asking?
i use to run a MPC60 MKII this was a amazing machine with amazing sound but i sell it finally cose i didnt put the mpc3000 chip and hard drive so was a normal mpc60 and for me wasnt usefull cose if i want have a good machine i had to spend lots of money and every time i had to load the sounds i had to wait alot, some times the DISKKETTES was broken, the scree was a little burned ...so finally i sold
the MPC3000 is a monster cose have a superb sound
the mpc2000 xl is a Standardon production
the mpc4000 didnt know to much but people told me that is a mosnter aswell
and i read about mpc5000 on future music and have lots of new featurings and a sinthetizer inside
check the productions of ELEKTROAKUST and you will relise what you cand do with that maravillous machine!
    :)

  • I moved from the 2000xl fully ext to the 2500 fully ext coz of CF cards and USB mainly but it has a lot of new cool features as well.
So good for sequencing, 4 midi out 2 in, i use it a lot for live gigs and i can say the 2000 was a tank compared to this but im still happy. I still use it a lot to sequence my tracks too, much better than staring at some colored patterns on DAWs :) but slower of course
An mpc1000 can be a good start point imo, cheap and quite complete but the pads are a bit shitty...

    Yoo ciao amigo
No I dont think theres so much difference, the 2500 can be expanded to 128mb and has an useful dvd-cd reader (audio writer) and a USB connection.
The 80gb Internal Hardisk can be useful too.
As i said the components were just a bit better on the 2000 (jogwheel, screen, knobs...) but i can easily live with that. Pads have the same good sensitivity anyway and i cant notice any relevant difference in audio outputs.
Also since the 5K is out the 2500 is easier to find second hand and its much cheaper.

thanx Gab for the info, so defently i will go to 2500 brand new!
    :D

  • Use what I use... :) AKAI MPK 49 and Cubase and Reason .. no need for all those floppies .. its a matter of tast really though. Its good to have both software and hardware ..any good producer knows that. But if i had to go hardware only im with elktrokaust the 2000 still is the best to me.

  • I use the MPK 49 with Cubase, Rebirth and an MS 2000, and i love the way it all works together.

I had a hard time finding a good controller for a long time but the MPK is a beast...its also got a built in arpegiator and note repeat. The pads are pretty useful as well.

I always thought i would go the MPC2000 route, but i never wound up doing it...just went for the computer rig instead.

In the end its whatever gets you going, i think its been proven that its not what you use but how you use it.

I like the new MPK series but i tried it and i can say the pads are not comparable to the MPCs, so it depends from your needs, its not just the same thing.

I agree that is good to use both Computer and Outboard Gear. Not really about 'software'.
MPCs have software as the MS2000 as well and so on and I cant see much difference between them and VSTi + controllers.

Not sure i understood the reason why u would go for the 2000 instead of 2500 tho, just curious.
