Street Sounds / UK Fresh Reunion / 16th July 2011

  • Back in the 80s ...Electro needed as much support as possible.. There was very very little airplay on UK radio (anyone who disagrees is wrong or clearly had access to some radio from the future.)

So when the few small childs handful of DJs who were playing electro (like Pearce and Stu Allan) started to play more of this new house bullshit they in effect helped kill the very music scene they were seen to support!

and they should hang their heads in shame...

only Mike Allen was real!! (and for those miles away from London we couldnt even get to hear him!!)

far too annoying a subject to go over but i see the likes of Pearce as electro traitors... and music killers.

  • add MR P to that list :wow:

I would rather hear feed back from someone that was at the event than someone who has a grudge and didn't even go.

Sadly I suspect that some people are just not going to be happy whatever the circumstances.

    155 :-/

  • But the very reason for not going was because it was built up as something it wasnt...thats a lot of months looking forward to an event that never happened. Cos last nights was certainly no huge "soooo many legendary artists" event. there was just 3 old skool acts remember.

im dissapointed that the newsletters which i waited for never added anyone to the bill each month.

    where was EGYPTIAN LOVER?
    where was BAMBAATTAA?
    where was DJ CHEESE?
where was THE KNIGHTS OF THE TURNTABLES?
    where was DEBONAIRE/MAGGOTRON ?
    where was DJ UNKNOWN?
    where was KOOL HERC?
    where was MELLE MEL /FLASH?
    where was HASHIM?

and where was GRANDMIXER D.ST ?????

and what possible excuse can there be for not having BLASTROMEN representing NU-ELECTRO ??

i simply do not understand it. so someone explain it to me.

  • Livewire.

If you are THAT unhappy with the event then why not organise one where the artists you mention appear?

Streetsounds does not have a monopoly on organising such events, and using the modern media I'm sure you could contact the artists fairly easily and discuss terms etc.

I'm sure lots of people here would attend - why not give it a go?

    155 :)

  • Livewire has asked legitimate questions.

I did not attend as i only liked Newcleus who were performing, and i've seen then perform before,if some of the acts Livewire mentioned were there i would have attended.

  • I do not have an iconic label (which make no mistake STREET SOUNDS is) with a near 30 year history and cash ,sponsors, friends in radio/media etc etc...

and when someone who does can only get 3 acts to perform out of all that behind them something is just not right...

i say children...what does it all mean? :cylon:

If you see post 97 you note that I've answered some of the points raised.

Ultimately you have to remember that no one was FORCED to attend the event, and as you indicate, there were not enough of the acts you would wish to see present for you to attend.

Why those artists were not there is something only they or Streetsounds can answer, but the same point has to be made - Streetsounds does NOT have a monopoly on arranging these events and if people want an event with the artists you mention then there is NOTHING to stop you (or anyone else) from doing so.

God knows there is a wealth of talent on here, with artists, producers and DJs aplenty. Instead of criticising the UK Fresh Reunion (which is easy to do), be positive and put on an event that you feel addresses the issues you raise.

You are right in that Streetsounds is an iconic record label, with a proud history of involvement in Hip Hop (and black music generally) in the United Kingdom. The fact it has friends is testament to that history - not part of a mysterious industry cabal as you appear to be suggesting.

Would it have been nice to see a lineup similar to that in 1986? Well remember that UK Fresh was linked to Capital Radio, with all the advantages that brought at the time. In 2011 the situation is clearly not the same, culturally, socially or musically. The musical landscape has certainly changed.

Perhaps a separate question would be to ask if many of the acts you mention would be appropriate to a UK Fresh 2011 REUNION (note particularly that word). There is an ongoing discussion to be had about the relevance to Electro Funk and Hip Hop of much of the material given the label 'Nu-Electro' (whatever that term actually means).

I say again, that NO ONE is stopping the talented people on here who may wish to see an event featuring the artists mentioned being organised.

  • 155 thank you kind words it was good to meet u aswell and all the others too many to name. I enjoyed the show but it wasnt what i was expecting but still good. All the artists were pleasant and were approachable. My only gripe was with morgan denying us our vip passes after cozmo d had arranged them for us but sayin that leeroy got 1 which he deserved but it was useless as he tried to go backstage and was refused. The beer prices were steep but it was london lol and it must be us northerners complaining lol the breakers wernt up to much considering they were booked to perform and the graffiti wasnt what id expected i thought there would have been a huge wall or something but it was a small room. If theres ever another i will not be goin as i will not be buying anything else or have anything to do with street sounds as we at global funk radio were not even acknowledged oh i think our name was whispered on stage. Leeroy didnt get a mention for doin the chart dave pearce got more credit than us but nevermind morgans pissed of a lot of people in the last few months and im sure there will be more not a good thing if your a business man, but like i said i still had a good night and once again to all the people who took the time to say hi and chat thank you.

Was very curious how they would pull off this without Chilly B. To their credit, this is done well.
    who was the other members?

Myself, Lady E and Al T. Al T has rolled with me and Jam-On for years before Chilly B got down, and would have been in the original Newcleus if he hadn't have joined the army. He is also Tuga who rapped on" Drunk Driving", and was A&R up at Warlock Records when they had the Jungle Brothers.

  • The ticket price was in my opinion not expensive at all. Id of paid £35 just to see these guys alone.

Absolutley godly sound. and they look great aswell . so maybe a Dominance Electricity festival should be the one to encourage.
