You will not be able to make any money without the prior consent of the original owners, if your tune bares any obvious resemblance to the original. You may get away with it if nobody notices, but that's your risk. Why not just craft an original tune ? The world is drowning in cover versions and remixes as it is.

Surely you're still free to sell it yourself ? Plenty of people will still buy it legitimately, I know I still would. You ain't gonna sell shit to people that acquire stuff through these sources anyway.

Obviously, without seeing your rig it's impossible, for Me anyway, to diagnose for sure; but it sounds like classic latency to Me, ie - Your laptop may be too slow to process the MIDI data flying around from quicker melodies.

Yeah, that's a nice tune with plenty of work in it; a theme, rhyming lyrics etc, nice and melodic too. But (there's always one) for Me, it's just a little too nice & needs a little more attitude & oomph.

If you've got another tune flying about, package it up with this one, in to a two track CD (kinda like an A & B side) and get it on iTunes or Amazon etc. What's stopping ya !
