Planet Rock also uses a riff from this:

yeah, if I remember correctly, if Audacity crashes before you save or export, it asks you if you'd like to recover the data when you next restart it, so there should be a temp folder somewhere. search your hard-drive!

As the others have said, the way to go is definitely record into an application (any should do as long as you can do some basic levels adjustment and save the files out as your preferred format.

I've used Soundforge, Wavepad and Ableton and all give the same results.

Obviously you need a fairly decent soundcard with audio in!

I like it in small portions - after 2 or 3 tracks I need something faster!

Not sure about many of the tunes in that mix, but here's an example of the stuff I like:

    Quote from bhose;46117

Was playing Jetpac hard on my ZX Spectrum in 85', Star Raid became my soundtrack to it... (along with a lot of other choons I used to kick out in the background while I was playing) its not a very good track, lets face it, I love it more for sentimental reasons and it reminds me of being 16.

That's EXACTLY the same as me.

Back when I was 11, I didn't really distinguish between Star Raid and the other tracks.
In fact, it appealed to my sci-fi loving, computer game playing brain.

Yeah, it's this funky little number:
